Title: Optically bright, highly radio-variable AGN discovered in VLASS
PI Name: Mark Lacy
Abstract: The unexpected discovery of a population of radio changing-look AGN (objects that can change from radio-quiet to radio-loud and vice-versa) on decade timescales was an early result from the VLA Sky Survey (VLASS) and has important implications, not only for our understanding of the nature of radio emission from quasars, but also for the role that jet/radio-mode feedback has in massive galaxy formation as a whole. To understand the nature of these radio changing-look AGN better, we have identified six optically-bright AGN that vary in the radio by more than a factor of two in the ~3 years between VLASS Epochs 1 and 2. By comparing with optical/near-infared monitoring we can, for the first time, investigate how the accretion disk is (or is not) changing while the radio source is varying.
