ACIS FEF files, CALDB 3.0.0

************************************************************************

While we will still maintain the FEF files in their current form in
the CalDB, the ACIS Calibrations team is switching to a new RMF
generator, specifically the new tool "mkacisrmf" first released in
CIAO version 3.2, December 14, 2004. The FEFs will not be updated in
the future. See the CIAO threads pages and CIAO 3.2 release notes for
details on mkacisrmf.

HEAD LAN users: Look for ACIS FEFs in the following directory:
/data/CALDB/ciao/data/chandra/acis/cpf/fefs/.

For remote users, the location depends on where you built your
internal version of the Chandra CALDB. You should still find the
files in $CALDB/data/chandra/acis/cpf/fefs/, however $CALDB has been
set up on your LAN or computer.

The files are as follows:
      FILENAME DESCRIPTION EFFECTIVE OBS-DATE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
acisD1999-07-22fef_phaN0002.fits	ACIS FP_TEMP=-90C, PHA Launch - 1999-08-12
acisD1999-08-13fef_phaN0002.fits	ACIS FP_TEMP=-100C, PHA 1999-08-13 - 1999-08-22*
acisD1999-09-16fef_phaN0002.fits	ACIS FP_TEMP=-110C, PHA 1999-09-16 - 2000-01-28
acisD2000-01-29fef_phaN0005.fits	ACIS FP_TEMP=-120C, PHA 2000-01-29 - Present

acisD2000-01-29fef_pha_ctiN0004.fits	ACIS FP_TEMP=-120C, PHA 2000-01-29 - (undetermined)
					with CTI corrector applied to
					events in ACIS-0,1,2,3,6

These five files comprise the final set of Fits Embedded Function (FEF)
files for the ACIS FI and BI CCCDs. FEF files contain a description of the
CCD redistribution function and are used as inputs to the MKRMF tool in
the CXC Data System. The MKRMF tool allows user to create appropriate
Response Matrix Files (RMFs) for a given location on one of the ACIS
CCDs. Each file contains a hypercube with all necessary spatial
information for each chip and node at a given temperature and for a
given channel type (PI or PHA).

NOTE: The following files, specifically PI FEFs have been discontinued in
the CalDB as of version 3.0.0. They have been marked bad in the index
since CalDB 2.18, when the addition of software in mkrmf which
generates PI matrices from PHA FEF files using dynamical binning.

*NOTE: For dates between 1999-08-23 and 1999-09-13, the CTI effect was
changing with time. This time variation calibration has not yet been
released in the CALDB. - DEG.)
