The color scale indicates the range of count rates for the average background derived from all 21 pointings in this instrumental configuration. The raw data were first blocked 8x8 and then, after averaging, smoothed using a Gaussian with a sigma of 40 blocked pixels. The color scale was selected so as to maximize the contrast of any features within the image. This data can also be seen as a percentage difference from the mean and as a 3-D projection on an absolute scale. Or you can see all six plots at once
